Edward R. Suits, of Palatine Bridge, NY passed away on October 21, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer, stoically facing a formidable illness.
Son of the late Edward C. and Leta P. (Mestek) Suits, he was born in 1944; brought up in Palatine Bridge. Ed was predeceased by his sister, Pamela. In 1984 he married Mary Jane (McAvoy) Suits-their adventures thru life together spanning 38 years.
His career in the US Army included Officer's Candidate Training in Ft. Benning, Georgia, followed by service in Vietnam in 1969, where as a 1st Lieutenant he served in the Infantry and Military Police; after Vietnam serving stateside. Upon leaving active Army duty, he served in the Vermont National Guard, leaving service as a US Army Captain. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
His training led him from the US Army to his time as a Vermont State Trooper, and a period with the Vermont State Police as an undercover narcotics agent. Thereafter his career culminated with 20 years of service as a United States Marshal, based in the Northern District of New York; retiring in 1998.
Ed was an avid sportsman. His time scuba diving included dives for the NYS Police. He enjoyed ruffed grouse hunting, trout fishing in the wilds of Canada, wilderness canoeing/camping, and in later years, golf. Passions he shared with his wife, Mary.
A proud Military Man, a Vt State Trooper, a United States Marshal-his life's path was one of service. A devoted son, a loving husband, a man of service to his country...he will be missed.
A private graveside will take place at Tilton Hill Road Cemetery, with military honors.
