Obituary of Emma J. Rood

Mrs. Emma J. Rood, 74, of Blaine Road, Town of Canajoharie, NY passed away at home under the care of hospice. She was born on April 30th, 1948, in the village of Stamford, NY, the daughter of Elmer and Blanche Rivenburgh Merwin, both have predeceased her.
She attended Cobleskill Schools. And had lived in the local area since 1964.
Mrs. Rood in her working years had worked for Beech-Nut and had also cared for the elderly as a home aide, while being a mother and homemaker.
Mrs. Rood was also a member of Corner Stone Baptist Church, enjoyed playing cards, repairing automobiles, crocheting, crafting, and assisting Supervisor for family building projects.
On October 3, 1964, at the Faith Bible Church of Sprakers she married Walter E. Rood, Jr, who passed away February 6, 1999.
She was also predeceased by her brothers John Merwin, Elmer Merwin, Edward Merwin, Franklin Merwin and sisters Betty Ware and Dorothy Oliver.
Survivors include her four daughters; Kimberly and her husband Rich Consalvo, and their six children Emma, Murphy, Richie, Bambi, Dalton and Piper and families; Rose and her husband Dayton Syzdek, and her family, Tammy her husband James Hughes and her family, and Patricia and her family; her son William H. Rood, Sr. and his family; three brothers Russell Merwin, Richard Merwin, Charles and his wife Sue Merwin and her sister Mildred; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive family and friends from 3 pm to 5pm on Sunday October 23, 2022, at Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A funeral will be held on Monday October 24 at 11 am at Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home Inc.
Burial will take place in Mapletown Cemetery.
