Obituary of Brian J. Congdon

Please share a memory of Brian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Brian Congdon, aged 58, passed away on September 28th after a valiant battle with cancer.

Brian is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Allison Congdon who fought alongside him and tirelessly took care of him throughout his illness, his two daughters whom he was devoted to, Rachel Congdon and her fiancé, (Austin) and Danielle Congdon and her fiancé (Sheldon), and his step-children, Steven, Victoria, Ashton, his 4 grandchildren, Harper, Mason, Lawson and Alaina; his Father, Edward Congdon, Sr., his brother, Edward Congdon, Jr. (Laura), and his sisters, Deborah Venette (Victor), Suzanne Kayhart (Todd) and Sister, Deanna Congdon (Ed).

He is predeceased by his mother, Viola (Tiberio) Stefanski and stepfather, Paul Stefanski.

Brian worked as Parts Manager for many years in the area and was well known by many in the industry.

His favorite job, however, was coaching soft ball starting with his daughter’s teams. In addition to coaching softball, he devoted many years to the Canajoharie Youth Football Program. Coach Congdon was well loved by his players and, although he was tough at times, he was caring and always had time for the kids.

Brian was a devoted husband who loved spending time with his wife. He and Allison would go on hikes, with their favorite hike being to Vrooman’s Nose, where they married. They enjoyed riding bikes, and trips to New Hampshire to be by the ocean. Brian also adored his daughters. He always made sure he was available when they needed him. He coached their softball teams and was always there with his video camera recording every event they were a part of.

Brian would be very annoyed if we neglected to mention his love of the Buffalo Bills and NY Yankees. He enjoyed going to the Bills games in Buffalo, especially with his daughters and rarely missed a game on TV. When they won, he was happy for days. When they lost, well……it was best not to talk to him for a few hours.

A special thanks to his loyal friends Tom, Harold, Tim and Rob. They stuck with him through the good times and the bad. They could always be counted on to help when needed and to bring a smile to Brian’s face during his illness. Also, a big thank you to these special people who’s help and support made this difficult time more bearable for our family. There are too many of you to mention individually.

Brian’s wishes were not to have a funeral service as he never wanted to see everyone sad. Instead, there will be a celebration of Brian’s life at The Perthshire in Amsterdam on October 15th from noon to 3 pm. We invite everyone who Brian touched in his lifetime to join us. Brian’s wishes were to have everyone sport their Bills attire or at least wear your Buffalo blue.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Christian Church of Charleston, 1380 E Lykers Rd, Sprakers, NY 12166.
