Mary Burdziakowski, 99 of Nelliston NY, went to be with the Lord on September 16th, 2022. Mary was born in Meducha Poland on March 25th, 1923 to Marion and Josephine Jastremski. At age 17 she was taken from her home against her will into Forced Labor on a farm in Germany for 3 years during World War II. She spent 5 years at a refugee camp in Germany after the Americans liberated the area that she was in. She came to the United States in 1950 and lived in this area the rest of her life. Mary was a very caring, helpful and inspirational mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great, grandmother. She loved and enjoyed gardening, birds, planting flowers and cooking ethnic Polish cuisine. She was blessed with a long life and loved by her family and others. She loved telling stories from her life in Poland and Germany. Mary was a member of the church of God’s Elect and read the Holy Scriptures daily and prayed extensively all her life, believing strongly in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She loved sharing her faith with everyone especially her grandchildren always telling them how important it was to pray as prayers are what got her through difficult times. She was predeceased by her husband Michael in 1980, her grandson Daniel in 1979 and her son Mark in 2021. She is survived by her sons Zigmund (Jenny), Michael (Mary), Joe, Peter (Nina), and daughters Michelle and Helen (Kevin), 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
She made a great impact on many and will be dearly missed by all.
Visiting hours will be held at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home at 20 Otsego Street in Canajoharie from 4 pm-7pm on Tuesday September 20, 2022. The funeral service will be Wednesday September 21, 2022, at 2 pm. The Reverend Zigmund Burdziakowski will be officiating. Burial service following the funeral will be at the Fort Plain Cemetery.
