Obituary of Beverly J. McGovern

Mr. Beverly J. "Bud" McGovern, 92, of Indian Trail Road, Fort Plain, New York, died Thursday, May 13, 2010 at his home with his family following a long illness.

Born on December 5, 1917 in Tonowanda, NY, he was the son of John McGovern and Pearl Chriss McGovern. He was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and was a lifetime area resident.

Most recently he was the owner and operator of the former John and Betty McLaughlin farm in Fort Plain.

Mr. McGovern served with the U.S. Navy during World War II with a rank of Seaman First Class.

In 1939 in Ilion, NY, he was married to Doris I. Booker. She preceded him in death on December 3, 1986. Mr. McGovern was also predeceased by his sister, Irma Smith and 2 sons, William McGovern in 1948 and Barry McGovern in 1974.

Survivors include 3 sons, Ronald and Elizabeth McGovern of Cherry Valley, NY, John and Deborah McGovern on Fort Plain, NY, Terry and Diana McGovern of OH; 3 daughters, Joanne & John Jordan of Phoenix, AZ, Mary Roman of Ithaca, NY, Barbara McGovern of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Rose Mary Guzzo of Colonie, NY; numerous grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Freysbush Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
