Mr. Glenn A. Young, 84, of Hoke Road, Starkville, New York died, Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica following a short illness.
Born on October 23, 1925 in Van Hornesville, NY, he was the son of Algy Young and Louise Werner Young. He attended Van Hornesville School and later graduated from Owen D. Young. Glenn was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Young was a Yardman and Deliveryman for Lloyd's Building Supply in Palatine Bridge.
He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army Infantry with the European Theatre in Germany and France. Mr. Young was the recipient of a Bronze Star, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, EAME Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of the Starkville United Methodist Church until its closing. He then transferred membership to the Freysbush United Methodist Church.
Mr. Young was a life member of the Fort Plain American Legion Post #554. He enjoyed fishing in his younger days and later enjoyed remodeling his home, especially the kitchen. He also took pleasure in puzzle books and playing cards. He was an avid fan of John Wayne Westerns.
On July 11, 1953 at the Van Hornesville United Methodist Church, he was married to Clarissa R. Stiles. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Tracey Young, who was just three years old, and a brother, Robert S. Young.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Clarissa R. "Cris" Young of Starkville, NY; son, David & LuAnn Young of Ilion, NY; daughters, Wendy Young of Starkville, NY, Tamra & Jeff Panko of Richfield Springs, NY; sister, Vera & Robert Marshall of New Hartford, NY; brother, Richard C. Young of Van Hornesville, NY; 5 granddaughters; 5 grandsons; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
