Obituary of Mary C. Chamberlain

Mrs. Mary C. Chamberlain, 83, of Fort Plain, New York, most recently of Arkell Apartments in Canajoharie passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at St. Johnsville Rehab and Nursing Center in St. Johnsville. Mary grew up in Starkville, NY, and attended Owen D. Young Central School in VanHornesville, NY. She graduated in 1956 and the day after graduation she accepted a position with the former Central National Bank in Canajoharie, where she worked for 33 years. On October 13, 1962 she was married to Frank Chamberlain, her husband of 53 years. Mary was of Catholic faith. After retirement, Mary and Frank enjoyed winters in Ocala, FL for 20 years playing cards, bingo, and get-togethers with friends. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Frank; parents, Ed and Lucille Cogan; and her sisters, Sue Merrill and Nancy Rutigliano. She is survived by her brother, Francis Cogan (SamYe) of Utica, NY; sister, Karen Smith (James) of VanHornesville, NY; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM, September 1, 2021 at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00AM to 11:30AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery at a later date.
