Mrs. Eleanor C. Saltsman, 90, of Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain, New York died Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at St. Johnsville Rehab & Nursing, where she had been a resident for the past 6 years.
Born on August 19, 1930 in Town of Palatine, NY, she was the daughter of J. Azariah Saltsman and Lelah Gray Saltsman. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1948 and had been a resident of Stone Arabia her entire life.
Mrs. Saltsman helped her husband run the family farm. Early on she worked for NBT Bank in St. Johnsville and as a legal secretary for Brower and MacKenzie.
She was a member of the Board of Elections for many years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Eleanor enjoyed gardening, golf, and bowling. She was a member of the Home Bureau.
On April 11, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia, Eleanor was married to Leo C. Saltsman. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2014. Her siblings, Florence Gaylor, Jessie Moore, John Saltsman, J. Azariah Saltsman, Jr., and Sydney Saltsman also predeceased her.
Mrs. Saltsman is survived by her son, Mark and Lydia Saltsman; grandchildren, Lucas and Lola Saltsman, Jay and Jess Saltsman, Eliza and Michael Putman; 9 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Saltsman; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the present home of Mark & Lydia Saltsman, where Eleanor was born, 903 Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain, NY from 11:00-4:00PM. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda, NY at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mrs. Eleanor C. Saltsman may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 5430 State Highway 10, PO Box 238, Palatine Bridge, NY 13428.
