Mrs. Helena Ruth Elworthy, 96, of Montgomery Street, Canajoharie, New York, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Palatine Nursing Home.
Born on September 30, 1913 in Canajoharie, NY, she was the daughter of Leonard Voght and Barbara Weinman Voght. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, class of 1932. In 1935 she graduated from the Crouse-Irving School of Nursing at Syracuse University. Mrs. Elworthy then received her certification in Real Estate from the Westchester Community College.
On December 19, 1942 in Pleasantville, NY, Helena was married to J. Clifford Elworthy and they resided in Briarcliff Manor, NY.
Mrs. Elworthy had been a resident of Canajoharie since 1990; prior to that she resided in Hyde Park, Dutchess County.
Helena was employed as a Registered Nurse in the New York City, Long Island and Westchester areas. In 1960, she and her husband J. Clifford Elworthy formed the Old Village Realty in Westchester County, retiring in 1978.
Mrs. Elworthy was a member of St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie and a member of St. John's & St. Mark's Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA).
She was a former member of the American Nursing Association and a current member of Crouse-Irving Nurses Association.
Helena was predeceased by her husband, J. Clifford Elworthy; her parents; 2 sisters and 7 brothers.
Mrs. Elworthy is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Diane and husband, John (Jack) Green of Glenmont, NY; 2 granddaughters, Olivia and Ava Green and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
