Mr. Virgil C. Heiser, 85, of Clinton Road, Canajoharie, New York died Monday, March 1, 2021 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 15, 1935 in The Town of Canajoharie, NY, he was the son of Clinton and Francis Heiser.
Virgil worked for LifeSavers in Canajoharie for 40 years and retired from the Village of Fort Plain.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Plain.
Mr. Heiser had been a member of The Fort Plain Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years. He enjoyed hunting, deer, turkey, and duck. He liked playing cards in Buel with his friends. He was an avid NASCAR fan, Bobby Labonte being his favorite driver. He loved being part of the Beech-Nut Softball team and missed playing.
On August 1, 1991 at Kevin Shietz Parent’s home in Copenhagen, NY, Virgil was married to Judith Homkey.
His parents; step-son, James E. Homkey, and uncles predeceased him.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Judy Heiser; son, Larry Heiser; daughter, Luann Fisher and Robert Osley; brother, Jim James Heiser and Catherine; grandchildren, Christopher Heiser, Isabella Heiser, Jay Fisher and Alyssa Clemons, Shaun and Jenna Fisher; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Chase, Avery, Jaxson, Haley; stepchildren, Michelle Homkey, Brian Homkey, Melissa Homkey, Barbara Kilmartin; many step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Noon at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:00-12:00PM at the funeral home. We ask anyone in attendance to please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery at a later date.
