Obituary of Geraldine M. Whiteman

Mrs. Geraldine M. Whiteman, 87, formerly of Gould Road, Fort Plain, and most recently of, the Park Hill Adult Home in Amsterdam, New York died, Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born on October 20, 1922 in the Town of Minden, NY, she was the daughter of Reuben Swartz and Julia Yerdon Swartz. Mrs. Whiteman was a lifelong area resident and was educated in area country schools. Mrs. Whiteman was employed as a machine operator at the former LaSalle's Labs in Canajoharie for 10 years, retiring in 1985. She attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush. Mrs. Whiteman enjoyed knitting and crocheting. On February 7, 1953 in Fort Plain, NY, Geraldine was married to Fred L. Whiteman. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1995. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Mary Ellen Swanson, 1996 and a grandson, Richard Sanders in 1964. Mrs. Whiteman is survived by her 6 sons; Raymond and Doris Sanders of Cornelius, NC, Charles R. and Judi Sanders of PA, Wayne D. Whiteman and fiancé, Yvonne White of Fort Plain, NY, Edward L. and Michele Whiteman of Nelliston, NY, Donald R. and Diana Whiteman of Fort Plain, NY, Ronald J. and Dora Whiteman of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Kay Elaine and Gary May of Canajoharie, NY; sisters, Viola Alkinburg of Canajoharie, NY, Margaret Dittman of Gloversville, NY; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
