Mr. Robert H. "Bob" Swarts, 88, of Wagner Street, Fort Plain, New York died, Thursday, October 21, 2010 at his home.
Born on July 9, 1922 in Canajoharie, NY, he was the son of Harold F. Swarts and Pearl E. Reynolds Swarts. He was a lifetime area resident. Mr. Swarts was a graduate of Bentley College of Accounting and Finance.
Most recently, Mr. Swarts was an Accountant for Agway Energy in Fort Plain. Prior to his employment with Agway he was a partner with Dick Snyder of Snyder's Petroleum for many years.
Bob served as Town Assesor for the Town of Minden for over 20 years and was also the Village of Fort Plain Citizen of the Year several times. He was also a former Village Board Member.
Mr. Swarts served in the US Navy Air Corp during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.
Bob led the Boy Scouts as a Scout Master and Cub Master in Fort Plain for over 30 years and was on the Eagles Scout Board of Review for more than 20 years. Bob also was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for his dedication to Scouting.
On August 19, 1945 in Canajoharie, he was married to Virginia Bundy. She preceded him in death on March 19, 1986. He was also predeceased by his brother, Richard P. Swarts.
Mr. Swarts is survived by his sons, Kevin and Martha Swarts of Hamburg, NY, Alan Swarts of Junction City, KS; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
