Obituary of Regina A. Lehtonen

Mrs. Regina A. Lehtonen, 100, formerly of Johnstown, New York died Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Hackettstown Medical Center in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Born on September 17, 1920 in Manhattan, NY, she was the daughter of Alexander Kangas and Alina Sixtus Kangas. She was a graduate of James Monroe High School, Class of 1938 and Ganes Business College in New York City. Mrs. Lehtonen grew up in Pelham Bay, NY, later moving to Canajoharie, where she spent 31 years of her life before moving to Johnstown and then to New Jersey. Mrs. Lehtonen was an Executive Secretary in Manhattan before becoming an Executive Assistant to Vice Admiral Leary at Fort Schuyler, NY. She was a member of the former St. John’s Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. She loved spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren, and was an avid golfer, walker and swimmer into her 80’s. Regina married Victor Lehtonen in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1989. She is survived by her son, Jon A. Lehtonen of Hackettstown, NJ; daughters, Diera Nolly of Memphis, TN, Victoria Hines of Caroga Lake, NY; as well as 8 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
