Mr. Kenneth D. Mowrey, 85, of Fredericks Street, Canajoharie, New York died, Friday, November 12, 2010 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home.
Born on March 9, 1925 in Fort Plain, NY, he was the son of William Mowrey and Ena Mae Nichols Mowrey. He attended Canajoharie Central School and was a lifetime area resident.
Mr. Mowrey worked as a Village and Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Canajoharie for 30 years.
He served in the United States Marine Corps. During World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theater with a rank of Private First Class.
Mr. Mowrey was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain.
He was a member of the Smith-Schultz American Legion Post #222 and of the Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275. Mr. Mowrey obtained his commercial pilot's license after his service with the US Marine Corps. He enjoyed his dogs, working on guns, hunting and fishing. He also loved to travel.
On May 3, 1947 at St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church in Canajoharie, Kenneth married Marie V. Clouthier. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Mr. Mowrey is predeceased by 2 brothers, William and Frank Mowrey.
He is survived by his wife, Marie V. Mowrey of Canajoharie, NY; sons, David and Bonnie Mowrey of Cazanovia, NY, Frank "Mickey" Mowrey of Canajoharie, NY; daughter, Tina Marie Cook of Cherry Valley, NY; granddaughters, Wendy, Kris, Lindsay; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
