Obituary of James E. Flynn

Mr. James E. Flynn, Jr., 76, of Center Street, Fort Plain, New York died Friday, June 26, 2020 doing what he enjoyed, riding his motorcycle. Born on September 13, 1943 in Niskayuna, NY, he was the son of James E. Flynn, Sr. and Nellie Elaine Shepard Flynn. He was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College, earning an associate degree. He had been a resident of the Fort Plain area since 1976. Mr. Flynn worked in Aerospace Technology for over 40 years, retiring in 2013. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp., serving as Corporal during the Vietnam War. He also served the US as a dog handler and spent 2 years in the Air Force. He was a member of the St. Johnsville Reformed Church, where he sang in the choir. Mr. Flynn loved riding his motorcycle and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved dogs and enjoyed singing with the Mohawk Valley Karaoke Club. He was a member of the North American 40+ Touring Riders Club for over 5 years. On August 23, 1969 in Fort Plain, NY, James was married to Laura M. Wolaniuk. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2013. His parents and brother, Kenneth John Flynn also predeceased him. Mr. Flynn is survived by his 3 sons, Aaron J. and Jennifer Flynn of Mayfield, NY, Justin Flynn of Fort Plain, NY, Devin and Alecia Flynn of Canajoharie, NY; grandchildren, Jack, Michael, Vienna, Laura, Rhythm; sister, Katherine and Steve Byrnes; several nieces; and many good friends from the Karaoke Club and Motorcycle Club. The family invite friends and relatives Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 PM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda. We ask anyone in attendance to please wear a mask and be mindful of social distancing for the family’s safety as well as your own.
