Mr. Myron H. Walton, Jr., 91, of Main Street, Fort Plain, New York died, Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home.
Born on July 31, 1924 in Albany, NY, he was the son of Myron H. Walton, Sr. and Fannie Plater Walton. He was a graduate of Cherry Valley High School, Class of 1941 and had been a resident of Fort Plain since 1946.
Mr. Walton began working at Petri's Bakery in Fort Plain, NY in 1945 and became a partner in 1949. He later became the sole Owner and Operator of the Bakery. Mr. Walton retired from the Bakery after 40 years in November 1985.
Mr. Walton was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy from September 12, 1942 until November 3, 1945 with a rank of Petty Officer Bkr 2c(T), serving on the USS Texas in Normandy, Pacific and Iwo Jima as a Baker and the Battle Station as an Anti-Aircraft Gunner in Sky.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Canajoharie.
Mr. Walton was a member of the Fort Plain Community Club, Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275, Fort Plain Rotary Club, Canajoharie/Fort Plain B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #2621, Fort Plain Cemetery Association, Vestry of Holy Cross Church in Fort Plain and of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd of Canajoharie, Board Member of the Duffy Foundation, and Past Board Member of the former Savings & Loan Bank of Canajoharie.
On December 17, 1977 in Sharon Springs, NY, Myron married Ellen Kilty.
His first wife, Marion G. Walton predeceased him in 1968. His sisters Mildred Ouderkirk, and Marjorie Hawver also predeceased him.
Mr. Walton is survived by his wife, Ellen Walton of Fort Plain, NY; 2 sons, Dr. Terry L. Walton and Christine of Glens Falls, NY, Dr. Craig F. Walton and Karen of Saratoga Springs, NY; brother-in-law, Jack Kilty and Edith of West Winfield, NY; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at 11:00 am at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 26 Moyer Street, Canajoharie, NY with Mother Ginny Ogden officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 23 from 10:00-11:00am at the Church. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
