Mr. Howard "Garry" Ambridge, 78, of Trailer Street, Palatine Bridge, New York, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at his home following a brief illness.
Born on August 7, 1932 in the Town of Palatine, NY, he was the son of Edward Ambridge and Pearl Peeler Ambridge. Mr. Ambridge was educated at Canajoharie and Fort Plain Schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Ambridge worked for over 43 years at Beech-Nut Corp. in Canajoharie, retiring in May 1996.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army. He was attached to tank unit of Tank Company 3rd Armed Calvary Regt.
Mr. Ambridge was a member of the 25 Year Club at Beech-Nut, past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #853 in Canajoharie, member of the American Legion Post #554 in Fort Plain, and a former member of the Ephratah Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed watching baseball, closely following the Mets.
On March 10, 1978 in Stone Arabia, NY, he was married to Florence L. Lewis. Together they celebrated 32 years of marriage.
Mr. Ambridge is predeceased by several sisters and his brother.
He is survived by his wife, Florence L. Ambridge of Palatine Bridge, NY; daughter, Stephanie J. Hedges of AZ; sons, Vandy B. Ambridge of Johnstown, NY, Darrin R. Ambridge of Gloversville, NY; sister, Frances Shults of Canajoharie, NY; step-daughter, Lucinda Johnson of Dolgeville, NY; step-son, Thomas Ambridge of St. Johnsville, NY; 4 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
