Mr. Edward Van Avery, 78 years old formerly of Highland Estates, Fort Plain, NY passed away at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home on Sunday, April 10, 2011.
Mr. Van Avery was born in Gloversville on July 12, 1932 and was the son of Alfred F. Van Avery and Bertha Blackwood Van Avery. He attended the Springfield Center School district.
Mr. Van Avery worked for Kasson-Keller in Fonda, NY as a night shift supervisor and retired in the late 1990's. Prior to working for Kasson-Keller he worked in several dye houses in the area. He was a lifetime area resident. Mr. Van Avery enjoyed spending time with his family and he also liked watching NASCAR racing.
On March 11, 1955 he married Marilyn Hopkins at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Plain, NY. She predeceased him on July 19, 2002 and he was also predeceased by his daughter, Heather Ann Van Avery.
He is survived by his 3 daughters: JoDee K. & Floyd Youker, Fort Plain, NY, Lisa C. and Todd Richard, Gloversville, NY, Glenda L. Winslow and Joe Rachon, Johnstown, NY, 3 sons: Victor C. Van Avery & Gwen Hutchins, Fonda, NY, Curtis E. Van Avery and Cynthia Wesselmann, Lasselville, NY, Glenn L. and Daniela Van Avery, Nashville, TN, 1 brother: Alfred Van Avery, Fort Plain, NY, 1 sister: Marion Buckner of Kingston, NY, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 PM on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY with the Rev. R. W. Williams officiating. The family will received friends and family on Thursday, April 21, 2011 from 4-6 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
