Mr. Michael G. Clancy, 82, of Seebers Lane, Canajoharie, New York, died Saturday May 7, 2011 at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family, following a long illness. Born on June 3, 1928 in New York, NY, he was the son of Michael A. Clancy and Catherine Sheehan Clancy. He was a graduate of Locklen Catholic High School in Brooklyn, NY, Class of 1946. Mr. Clancy was a resident of West Islip, Long Island from 1952-1968. He resided in Canajoharie from 1968-1987. He then lived in Lake Placid, FL from 1987-2008, returning to the area in 2008. Mr. Clancy was employed as a Conductor for the Long Island Railroad Co. for 32 years, retiring on June 3, 1978. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Marine Corp. While living in Canajoharie, he was a communicant of the former St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church in Canajoharie. During his time in Florida he was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Lake Placid, FL. Upon returning to the area he attended Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Mr. Clancy was a member of the American Legion Post #25, and the Moose Lodge #2374 both in Lake Placid, FL. He was a founding member and past Exulted Ruler as well as "Elk of the Year" for the Canajoharie/Fort Plain B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #2621. Mr. Clancy was also a member of the Marine Corp League and a lifetime member of the United Transportation Union Local #645. On August 26, 1951 in Englewood, CA, he was married to Edythe "Maxine" Clancy. She preceded him in death on April 16, 1995. He was also predeceased by 3 brothers, Charles J., Vincent M. and Thomas N. Clancy and a granddaughter, K.C. Smith Congdon. Mr. Clancy is survived by his 8 daughters, Catherine C. Smith & David of Canajoharie, NY, Elizabeth A. Olsson & Robert of Rockland, MA, Mary M. Clancy of Lafayette, NY, Patricia Clancy & Colm Kennedy of Schoharie, NY, Erin C. Gratch & Kevin Ricco of Beaver Falls, NY, Teddi L. Kiefl & Raymond of Canajoharie, NY, Maureen M. Wright & Arthur of Hadley, NY, Sue Anne Clancy-Athens & Michael of Albuquerque, NM; 3 sons, David F. Clancy & Doris of Fort Plain, NY, Michael A. Clancy & Karen of Nellysford, VA, Daniel J. Clancy & Cherie Hallstein of Fort Plain, NY; 27 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain with Father Dennis Murphy officiating. Morning prayers will be offered at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 9:15am. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317, where a Prayer service will be held at 3:30pm as well as a service by the Elks at 7:30pm. Burial will take place at St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery, Canajoharie, NY, with full military honors by the US Marine Corp and the Fort Plain VFW Post #3275 Memorial Squad.
