Obituary of Carmela C. Abbadessa

Miss Carmela C. Abbadessa, 87, formerly of Walnut Street died, Thursday morning, June 16, 2011 at Palatine Nursing Home with her family by her side. Born on August 2, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Frank Abbadessa and Marie S. Antonino Abbadessa. She was a graduate of the former Lincoln High School in Jersey City, class of 1941. She had been a resident of Canajoharie since 1948. Miss Abbadessa was the proprietor of the Four Season's Gift Shop in Canajoharie. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Miss Abbadessa was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Catherine Esther #1264 and of the Alter Rosary Society. She was predeceased by a sister, Rose M. Errigo in 1993. Miss Abbadessa is survived by her sister, Grace M. Doyle of Canajoharie, NY; brother, Joseph F. and Remsa Abbadessa; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Prayer service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 9:15am at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY, with Father Dennis Murphy officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, June 19 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. A service by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Catherine Esther #1264 will be held Sunday, June 19 at 6:30pm. Burial will take place in St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery in Canajoharie, NY.
