Mr. Edward C. Hohensheldt, 87, of Main Street, St. Johnsville, New York, died Friday, July 15, 2011 at Countryside Care Center in Delhi, New York following a brief illness.
Born on November 8, 1923 in German Flatts, NY, he was the son of Russell Hohensheldt and May LaViollette. He was a local area resident all his life.
Mr. Hohensheldt was self educated in electronics and later in life went on to obtain his GED.
Ed worked for various construction companies in the area and at one time worked on the construction of the thruway.
He served as a merchant marine during World War II.
Mr. Hohensheldt enjoyed reading, fixing televisions, gardening, cooking, baking and helping with genealogy. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer in New York City.
Ed was predeceased by his son, Kevin C. Hohensheldt; sister, Blanche Waldron; and grandson, Jeffrey Hohensheldt.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Edward W. Hohensheldt of Palatine Bridge, NY, Kirk R. Hohensheldt of Sprakers, NY, Jeffrey S. Hohensheldt of Gloversville, NY; 4 daughters, Karen S. Passolano of Nelliston, NY, Sheila D. Hohensheldt of Nelliston, NY, Marion D. Hohensheldt of Canajoharie, NY, Sondra F. Shafer of Galway, NY; 2 brothers, Richard H. Hohenshild, Louis Hohenshild; 3 sisters, Helon Thompson, Gloria Gray, Violet Hohenshild; former wife, Marion C. Hohensheldt of Palatine Bridge, NY; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
