Obituary of Gladys E. Handy

Miss Gladys E. Handy, 90, formerly of School Street, Nelliston, New York died, Monday, August 15, 2011 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, NY. Born on August 30, 1920 in the Town of Canajoharie, NY, she was the daughter of Lester Handy and Mary Mowrey Handy. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, class of 1938 and was a lifelong area resident. Miss Handy was employed at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie, working in the office for 35 years until 1981. She later worked part-time at the Nelliston Post Office for 10 years retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church. Miss Handy was a past member of the Mohawk Valley Women's Business and Professional Club. She is survived by her son Brian D. Handy of PA; grandson, David M. Handy of Canajoharie, NY; niece, Michele Whiteman and her husband Ed, who were her devoted caretakers, of Nelliston, NY; 1 niece, 1 nephew; several cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews; her cats, Tiger and Lil One. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 10:00am at Fort Plain Cemetery with Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating.
