Carol J. Snyder
Carol J. Snyder, 71, formerly of Ilion, where she resided for many years until a fire in February caused her to relocate to Mohawk, New York, died, August 18, 2011 at Faxton-St. Lukes Hospital following a brief illness.
Born on February 16, 1940 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Harley Snyder and Lois Townsend Snyder. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, class of 1958. Carol was a resident of the Utica area most of her adult life.
Most recently, Mrs. Snyder worked at Trenton Technologies in Utica, NY, in circuit board assembly and repair, previously working for Laser Precision and Mohawk Data Centers. Early in her career, Carol was a hairdresser for 8 years in Utica.
She was a member of the former Aldersgate Free Methodist Church.
Carol was an avid Neil Young fan and Neil Young Fan Club member. She traveled throughout the United States with her friends, Kathy Popple and Shelley Lamoree. For the past 2 years she has gone to California to the Bridge School Celebration, which Neil Young founded. Following the fire, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and John Joyce took her in and helped get her reestablished.
She was predeceased by a son, Harley John Snyder in 1994.
Carol is survived by her 2 sisters, Gayle Ross and husband, Philip Eisenman of Cicero, NY, Harlene and James Szczerba of Amsterdam, NY; as well as several nieces and 2 nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011 at Noon at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY, with Rev. Wayne Cole officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 22 from 10:00-12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Ames Cemetery.
