Obituary of Clara Luft

Mrs. Clara Luft, 99, formerly of Abbott Street, Fort Plain, New York died Friday, October 28, 2011 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home. Born on January 26, 1912 in St. Johnsville, NY, she was the daughter of Anthony Massari and Angeline Sausto Massari. She was educated at St. Johnsville Country School and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Luft worked for the former P&K Dress Shop in Little Falls, NY. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Mrs. Luft was a life member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #554 of Fort Plain and a member of the Our Lady of Hope Alter Rosary Sodality. On May 9, 1936 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in St. Johnsville, NY, she was married to Raymond L. Luft. Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2005. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Mary Fiacco, Lillian Giarruso, Helen DeAngeles and Emma Beck, Agnes Richards; brother, Chester Massari. Mrs. Luft is survived by her daughter, Janet and Greg Roof of Fort Plain, NY; 2 sons, James and Jean Luft of Canajoharie, NY, Ronald Luft of Fort Plain, NY; brother, Ernest Massari of NYC; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 11:30am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY with Father Dennis Murphy officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 10-11:00am at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
