Obituary of James J. Divers

Mr. James Joseph Divers, 66, of Reed Street, Canajoharie, New York died, Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown with his family by his side.
Born on February 16, 1945 in Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of the late Patricia Havelin Divers. He was a graduate of St. Mungo's Academy in Scotland. From Scotland James moved to London, England prior to immigrating to London, Ontario, Canada. He then moved to the United States where he became a United States Citizen.
Mr. Divers worked for Pitney Bowes from 1970-79. At his home, he started his own small mailing equipment business, which through expansion became Alternate Way II of Cohoes and provided service to the Capital District with mailing equipment, office supplies and on site shredding.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain, NY.
Mr. Divers was a professional Motorcross Racer, racing internationally. Since his youth James was an avid football (American soccer) player and fan. He was a member of the Canajoharie Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Rochester Trade Exchange. He took great pleasure in taking his grandchildren for rides on his 4 wheeler.
Mr. Divers met his wife, Judy at Paradise Island in April 1975. They were married December 11, 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Ann Divers of Fort Plain, NY; 2 daughters, Meaghan Patricia Divers of Canajoharie, NY, Ashley Patricia Divers of Fort Plain, NY; sister, Jane Divers of Scotland; aunt, Anna Tovey of London, Ontario, Canada; his pride and joy, grandchildren, Kaiden James Divers and Mariah Olivia Hazzard.
He is also survived by Melanie Divers, her daughter, McKenzie and Jason Divers all of Canada.
A Prayer service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 9:15am at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339 with Father Dennis Murphy officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 5-8pm at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc. Burial will take place in St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery at a later date.
