Obituary of Ferdinand C. Kaiser

Ferdinand C. Kaiser, 87, of Abeling Street, Canajoharie, died Saturday evening, June 2 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. He was born November 22, 1924 in the Bronx, NY and was the son of Ferdinand and Elsa Hammerlitz Kaiser.
Ferdinand graduated from Jamaica High School and then served in the US Army in Europe during World War II. After the war, he attended and graduated from New York University in 1949 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Finance.
He was initially employed by the Tetley Tea Company and transferred to Canajoharie in 1962 when the company was acquired by the Beech-Nut Packing Company. He became the manager of payroll and disbursements and eventually retired in 1989 with 40 years of total service.
He was an active member of St. John's and St. Mark's Lutheran Church and was involved with both the church council and the choir. He was a Trustee on the Board of Directors of the Arkell Hall Foundation. He served on the boards of the Canajoharie Community Services and the Palatine Church Society. He was also a member of the Canajoharie Life Savers 25 Year Club.
Ferdinand is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, June Balling Kaiser, who he married on May 16, 1954. He is also survived by their two sons, David and his wife, Tamara, who live in Towaco, New Jersey and Clifford and his wife, Laurie, who live in Cranford, New Jersey. He is also survived by four grandsons, Matthew, Christopher, Jeffrey and Kevin; two nephews, Glenn and Wayne Balling and one niece, Kristi Horne. He was predeceased by his brother, Herman, in 1975.
A funeral service will be held for Ferdinand on Wednesday, June 6 at 10:00 AM at the St. John's and St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 143 Church Street, Canajoharie, New York with Rev. Zachary Labaugh officiating. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday evening, June 5 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie.
