Obituary of Sylvia M. Sweeney

Mrs. Sylvia M. Sweeney, 86, of Sprakers Road, Sprakers, New York died Monday, June 18, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital with her family by her side. Born on September 19, 1925 in Rome, NY, she was the daughter of Gordon Conkling and Mary Bruno Conkling. Mrs. Sweeney was educated at Rome area schools and had been a local area resident for over 60 years. Mrs. Sweeney was most recently employed at KeyMark Corp. in Fonda, NY. Previously she worked for various shoe factories in Little Falls and prior to that, she was the Owner and Operator of Darrow's Store in Sprakers. She enjoyed making crafts, sewing and camping. Mrs. Sweeney was predeceased by her husband, Ken Sweeney, as well as her previous husbands; 2 brothers, Gordon and Fred Conkling and granddaughter, Melissa Ranae Hinderliter. Mrs. Sweeney is survived by her 3 daughters, Joan A. and her husband James Jacques, Rose Dufresne , Larraine Hinderliter all of Sprakers, NY; 2 sons, Erwin "Bucky" Youker and his wife Karla of Ilion, NY, Wayne Galyen and his wife, Nancy of Vestal, NY; brother, William Conkling of Herkimer, NY; sister, Mary McDonald of Moultier, GA; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10:00am at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Pastor Gail Adamoschek officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Dolgeville Cemetery.
