Mr. Ronald E. Morrison, 86, of West Grand Street, Palatine Bridge, New York died Monday, May 9, 2016 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
Born in 1930 in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of Chester Morrison and Etta (Cross) Morrison. He attended elementary school at Nelliston School and high school at Fort Plain.
Mr. Morrison worked in Fort Plain for Miller's Body Shop and Snyder Petroleum as a truck driver. For the Village of Canajoharie, he served on the Police Department, Department of public works, and Maintenance Supervisor for the Sewer Treatment Plant, retiring in 1993.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from March of 1951 until March of 1953 as a Tank Commander, Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Morrison served as Town Justice for the Town of Palatine from 1980-2007.
Ronald enjoyed boat racing, airplanes, motorcycles, and hunting. He was also a fan of Historical reading. He was a member of the former Mid-County Ambulance Corp., NYS Magistrates Association, Montgomery County Magistrates Association, and Cross Trails Square Dance Club.
On September 22, 1951, at his parents' home in Nelliston, NY, Ronald married Dorothy Hoag. Together they celebrated over 64 years of marriage.
His parents and sisters, Rachel Stockwell and Bernice Drury predeceased him.
Mr. Morrison is survived by his wife, Dorothy Morrison of Palatine Bridge, NY; 3 children, Bradley Morrison (Karen) of Palatine Bridge, NY, Elaine Garcia (John) of Killeen, TX, Gregory Morrison of Palatine Bridge, NY; 4 grandchildren, Scott (Tanya) Morrison, Sydney Garcia, Dani Garcia, Jessi Garcia.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 3:00PM at the Canajoharie Reformed Church, 15-19 Front Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 5:00-8:00PM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. Burial will take place privately at Fort Plain Cemetery.
