Mr. Richard "Dick" Carl Voght, 90, of Seebers Lane, Canajoharie, New York died, Friday, August 17, 2012.
Richard was born on April 9, 1922 in Canajoharie, NY. He was the son of Frederick H. Voght and Martha M. (Van Valkenburgh) Voght. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, class of 1941 and was a lifelong area resident.
Richard was the co-owner of Voght Mobil Service Station in Canajoharie from 1944-1985. He then worked in the security department for Beech-Nut in 1987 until his retirement.
He was a World War II Veteran, serving in the US Navy as an Aviation Machinist 1st Class in the Pacific Theatre. After the war, Richard was a member of the US Army Reserves rising to the rank of Master Sergeant in the Infantry Unit. He was an active member of the AMVETs Canajoharie Post and with local veterans they established the American Veterans Scholarship, which is awarded to two Canajoharie seniors each year.
On July 6, 1946 in Sharon Hill, he was married to Beatrice C. Vosburg. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2000. He was also predeceased by his brother, Willis F. Voght.
Mr. Voght is survived by his daughter, Caryl L. Voght ; sons, Daniel R.(Lyn) Voght and Gilbert M. Voght; sister, Barbara V. Spraker; 5 grandchildren, Carly Nellis, Ryan Voght, Stephanie Voght, Jonathan Voght and Tyler Voght; great-grandchildren, Allysa and Joshua Nellis; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Burial will take place in Slate Hill Cemetery.
