Mrs. Ernesta Barletta Marchionne, 94, formerly of Cemetery Street, Fonda, New York, and Canal St. Fort Plain, NY, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, August 31, 2012.
Ernesta was born on August 27, 1918 in Yosts/Fonda, NY, and was the daughter of Alessandro Barletta and Stella DiProspero Barletta. She was baptized in Syracuse, NY and her family moved back to Italy in 1922. She returned to the United States after WWII in 1946. Mrs. Marchionne was a mother and homemaker at her home in Fonda, NY, for many years until she moved to Fort Plain to be closer to her daughter. She enjoyed crocheting, cross-stiching, playing Italian card games, and cooking homemade Italian food. Above all she adored her family, and everyone who met her fell in love with her.
Mrs. Marchionne was a communicate of St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church in Fonda, NY, later attending Our Lady of Hope with her family when she moved to Fort Plain.
In September 1938, Ernesta Barletta married Filippo Marchionne, a marriage that lasted over 50 years until his death on January 31, 1990.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Archangelo Barletta, Salvatore Barletta, and Dante Carlo Barletta, and sisters: Angelina Barletta De Gregori, and Flora Barletta Mancini. She was also predeceased by a great-grandson, Zack Davis.
Mrs. Marchionne is survived by her daughter, Dr. Rita Marchionne Piñeyro and her husband Dr. Alfonso F. Piñeyro II of Fort Plain, NY; son, Mr. Luigi Marchionne and his wife Olivia Torres Marchionne of Laredo, Texas; brother, Francesco Barletta and a sister, Antonia Barletta Leonoro , both of Sezze, Latina, Italy; grandchildren, Rita Annette Piñeyro and her husband Francis Allen Conover II, of Lee Center, NY, Dr. Alfonso F. Piñeyro III and his wife Annie Armstrong Piñeyro, of Seattle Washington, Filippo Marchionne and his wife Roberta Degiacomo Marchionne of Warwick, RI, Angelica Ernestina Marchionne, and Jolina Maria Davis both of Peachtree City, GA; great-grandchildren, Isabel Minter, Darby Davis, Luciana Marchionne, and Luigi Marchionne. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins both here and in Italy.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Gray-Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339 on Friday September 7th, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00PM.
A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday September 8th, 2012 at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339, with a burial following in St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Cemetery in Fonda, NY.
