Obituary of Ethel C. Jordan

Mrs. Ethel C. Jordan, 103, of Wagner Hill Road, Fort Plain, New York died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Born on May 19, 1909 in Van Hornesville, NY, she was the daughter of Howard Moyer and Lessie Fort Moyer. She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Springfield High School. She also completed a Teacher Training Course at Springfield.
Mrs. Jordan taught at one room school houses until 1930. She then spent the next 30 years as a mother and homemaker. In the 1960s Mrs. Jordan started her bottle and antique business, Antiques Old & Unusual.
She was a member of the former St. James Lutheran Church in Starkville, NY. She was treasurer of the church for many years and also taught Sunday school.
Mrs. Jordan enjoyed bowling, sewing, quilting and rug weaving.
On November 27, 1930 Ethel married Ralph Snell Jordan. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1977. She was also predeceased by all seven siblings.
Mrs. Jordan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, R. Nicholas and Susan M. Jordan of Starkville, NY; grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Jordan of Haverhill, MA, Adam Nicholas and his wife, Morgan Jordan of Glenmont, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 10:00am at Fort Plain Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
