Obituary of Betty E. Schell

Mrs. Betty Elizabeth Schell, 92, formerly of East Main Street, Nelliston, New York died Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home in Gloversville following a brief illness.
Born on May 5, 1920 in Watertown, NY, she was the daughter of Mr. Perl M. Ames. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and had been a resident of the local area since 1940.
Mrs. Schell was the Owner of Nelliston Lock Company until her retirement in January 1998.
She was active in the New York State Federation of Republican Women. She served as President and Treasurer of Montgomery County Republican Women. Mrs. Schell also served as District Deputy President of the Montgomery County Rebekah District and was a member of the Fort Plain American Legion #554 Ladies Auxiliary. Betty was also a member of the Friends of Fort Plain Museum and later was on the Board of Trustees for the Museum.
Mrs. Schell was a member of the Fort Plain United Methodist Church.
On December 8, 1940 in Watertown, NY, Betty was married to Allen E. "Shelly" Schell. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1998. She was also predeceased by a brother, Wayne S. Ames.
Mrs. Schell is survived by her cousin, James Castrucci and his fiancée, Sue of St. Johnsville, NY; close friend, Lois Thomas of St. Johnsville, NY; many friends and Church friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 10:00am at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church with Rev. Alan Griffith officiating. Burial will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, Little Falls, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
