Mrs. Maria Verbitsky, 94, of Lydius Street, Fort Plain, New York died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Palatine Nursing Home. She was born on March 14, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY and was a graduate of Public School #184 in Brooklyn. Mrs. Verbitsky had been a resident of Fort Plain since 1987. Mrs. Verbitsky was a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed shopping for clothing, garage sales, thrift stores and antique shopping. She was an animal lover, especially with cats. She was of Methodist faith. In 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, Maria was married to Michael Verbitsky. He preceded her in death in November 1990. She was also predeceased by her son, Michael Verbitsky in November 2009. Mrs. Verbitsky is survived by her son, Paul Verbitsky, Sr. of Fort Plain, NY; grandchildren, Paul Verbitsky, Jr. of Newport, NY, Paula Galleger of Florida; great-grandchildren, Autumn Verbitsky and Nate Verbitsky. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mrs. Maria Verbitsky may be made to the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, Inc., 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
