Obituary of Rachel Mae Stockwell

Mrs. Rachel Mae Stockwell, 81, of R. Dillenbeck Road, Fort Plain, New York died Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home. Born on October 26, 1931 in Little Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Chester A. Morrison and Etta Mae Cross Morrison. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1949 and lived her entire life in the area. Mrs. Stockwell was a dedicated mother, sensational grandmother and homemaker, along with offering valuable support to her husband, Robert and her brother-in-law, Fred Stockwell while they were operating Stockwell Brothers Dairy Farm in Hallsville, NY. She was a lifelong member of the Fort Plain United Methodist Church. Mrs. Stockwell enjoyed baking and cooking, as well as bowling when she was younger. She was active in the Farm Bureau and the Methodist Women's Group. She will be remembered for her knack of winning raffles, whenever she entered them. After retirement, Mrs. Stockwell enjoyed traveling the world and spending winters in the Port Charlotte, Florida area. On June 24, 1950 at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church Rachel was married to Robert C. Stockwell. Robert and Rachel celebrated 60 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2010. She was also predeceased by her sister, Bernice Drury. Mrs. Stockwell is survived by her 2 sons, Larry Stockwell of Clinton, NY, David and Maura Stockwell of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Ellen and Kenneth Bonk of Limerick, PA; brother, Ronald and Dorothy Morrison of Palatine Bridge, NY; brother-in-law, Fred Stockwell of Fort Plain, NY; 3 grandchildren, Sean and his wife, Emily, Ryan, Kelsey Stockwell; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 10:00am at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church, 39 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Alan Griffith officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 4:00-7:00pm at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
