Mrs. Ruth D. Austin, 92, of Arkell Hall, Montgomery Street, Canajoharie, New York died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Palatine Nursing Home.
Born on June 14, 1921 in Canajoharie, NY, she was the daughter of Elmer Dillenback and Rebecca Hime Dillenback. Mrs. Austin was educated in Canajoharie Schools and was a lifelong area resident, spending most of her life in Palatine Bridge.
Mrs. Austin was a mother and homemaker. Along with her husband she owned and operated the family dairy farm. She was also a seamstress for many years.
She was of Lutheran faith.
Ruth was a past member serving on Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
On May 24, 1943 in South Shaftsbury, VT, Ruth was married to Charles Henry Austin. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1975. She was also predeceased by 2 brothers, Lynndon (Jake) and Elmer Dillenback; 2 sisters, Lelah Carpenter and Lillian Tallman.
Mrs. Austin is survived by her daughter, Andrea Montanye and her husband, David of Palatine Bridge, NY; son, Alvin Austin and his wife, Judy of Oneida, NY; 4 grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Montanye of Randall, NY, Charles and Jill Montanye of Canajoharie, NY, Ashley and Scott Powers of Sauquoit, NY and Alison Austin of Oneida, NY; 5 great-grandchildren, Nicole Weakley, MacKenzie, Alex, Carlene and Jack Montanye; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Noon at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Zachary Labagh officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 10:00am-12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda, NY.
