Obituary of David C. Purdy

Mr. David Charles Purdy, 76, of Old Meadow Road, St. Johnsville, New York was called home by Jesus his Saviour on Thursday afternoon, August 8, 2013 while he was a patient at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown.
He was born on April 22, 1937 in Norwalk, CT, son of the late Charles Walter Purdy and Iva Beers Purdy. His family moved to New York State where he continued his education. He also attended Practical Bible Training School, Johnson City, NY. He was the owner and operator of David C. Purdy Tree Removal and Trimming, Fort Plain.
On May 20, 1972 David was united in marriage with Shirley Sanders in the First Baptist Church in Fort Plain. The Purdy's attended Grandview Baptist Church in Fort Plain after returning to the area to live.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Matthew and his wife, Judytte and granddaughter, Aaliyah of Upper Marlboro, MD; daughter, Elisabeth of Watertown, WI; brother, Fred of St. Johnsville, NY; brothers-in-law, Bill Sanders of Annandale, VA, Kris Skottke and his wife, Beth of Fort Plain, NY, Tim Sanders and his wife, Tricia of Ames, NY; sister-in-law, Barb Sanders of Orlando, FL; step-sisters-in-law, Shirley Abel of Westbury, NY and Lois Staffa of Lindenhurst, NY; aunt, Georgia Crandall of Arlington, TX; uncle, Arnold Brown and his wife, Patricia of Landing, NJ; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 7:00pm at the Grandview Baptist Church in Fort Plain with his son, Matthew Purdy officiating. A graveside service and interment will be held privately by the family earlier in the day at Fort Plain Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
