Obituary of Danny Crabill

Danny Lee Crabill - 53, of Sprakers NY passed away Friday October 11, 2013 at his home. He was born August 18, 1960 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth VA to parents Charles and Joan Crabill. Dan was a 1978 graduate of Canajoharie High School. After working as a carpenter and electrician for a number of years, Dan went to Danny Ward's Farrier School in Martinsville, VA. For over 26 years Dan has been a self-employed farrier in the local area. On October 3, 1998 Danny married Susan Mallery of Sharon Springs NY. For the past 20 years they have enjoyed life together on their farm in Sprakers. Dan took great pride in his home and he spent much of his free time improving the property and doing work around the farm. In high school Dan was an accomplished wrestler and he also enjoyed riding and racing motorcycles. More recently he and Susan shared snowmobiling, skiing, biking and riding, driving and showing horses they raised on their farm. He was especially proud of his wife's accomplishments with their horse Val. He was often found at home on his tractor or riding his 4-wheeler. Dan was a long-time member of the Eastern Regional Draft Horse Assn. and for many years enjoyed shoeing draft horses. He met and made friends with many special people through his work. Danny is survived by his wife Susan, his mother Joan Crabill of Palatine Bridge, his in-laws Keith & Phyllis Mallery of Sharon Springs, sisters Meredith (Greg) Yacobucci Canajoharie, Kim Armstrong Crestview FL and brothers Randy (Carol) Crabill Norfolk VA and David (Joyce) Crabill Holt FL. His extended surving family includes aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and a few close friends. His jack russell, Stewart/Louie/Lloyd will miss him very much. Dan was predeceased by his father Charles Crabill, Norfolk VA. A celebration of Dan's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions in his memory to be made to the Sprakers Reformed Church, St Judes Hospital for Children or a charity of your choice.
