Mr. Gregory A. Morse, 70, of Hough Street, St. Johnsville, New York, died early Saturday, October 19, 2013 at his home, following a long illness with his wife, Connie by his side.
Born on June 17, 1943 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Alexandre Morse and Marian Herb Morse. He was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Morse was employed with Kasson & Keller making bow and bay windows; leaving due to health issues. He also worked for Freihofer's driving delivery trucks. Mr. Morse was a Police Sergeant for the Fort Plain Police Department, serving on the force for 11 years.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force from 1964-1970 obtaining a rank of Sergeant. He was awarded Outstanding Service with the 454th/320th Bomb Wing during Vietnam. At the age of 40, Gregory joined the US Army National Guard, retiring in 1989.
He was of Lutheran faith.
Mr. Morse was a member of the Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275, Fort Plain American Legion Post #554 and Charter member of the Vietnam Fron Dukes. He enjoyed making and modifying model hot rods, going to car shows, reading Hot Rod magazines, drawing and wood carving.
On July 5, 2008 in St. Johnsville, NY, Gregory was married to Connie Vogel.
He is predeceased by parents, Alex and Marian Morse; father's-in-law, William Dolder and Harry Vogel, Sr.
Mr. Morse is survived by his wife, Connie Morse of St. Johnsville, NY; 2 daughters, Jennifer Comstock of St. Johnsville, NY, Lucinda Hart of Fort Plain, NY; 5 sons, Michael Morse of Starkville, NY, Jeff Morse of Fort Plain, NY, Jason Morse of NYC, NY, Jeremy Morse of Broadalbin, NY, Gregory T. Morse of Little Falls, NY; step-son, Jamey Tompkins of NC; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 10:00am at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339 with Rev. Zach Labagh officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery with full Military Honors offered by the Military Forces Honor Guard and Fort Plain VFW Post#3275 Memorial Squad.
