Obituary of George H. Haggerty

Mr. George H. Haggerty, 79, of Center Street, Fort Plain, New York died Thursday evening, December 12, 2013 at St. Mary's Healthcare of Amsterdam following a brief illness.
Born on June 4, 1934 in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of Harold Haggerty and Ruth Hayes Haggerty. He was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, Class of 1954 and was a lifetime area resident.
Mr. Haggerty was a forklift operator for Beech-Nut in Canajoharie for 35 years, retiring in 1999. Prior to working for Beech-Nut he worked for Palatine Dye.
He was an active member of the Fort Plain United Methodist Church. George was also a former Trustee of the Church as well as an Usher.
Mr. Haggerty was a member of the 25 Year Club at Beech-Nut. He was a Little League Coach for many years with his son and grandson. He enjoyed socializing around town. George was also an avid Yankee and baseball fan.
On April 11, 1970 at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church, George was married to Marilyn Smith Colvin. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage.
Mr. Haggerty was predeceased by his son, Franklin Colvin on December 11, 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Haggerty of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Bonnie Lynn Colvin Tyler of Fort Plain, NY; grandson, Kristopher Colvin of Fort Plain, NY; granddaughters, Jessica Hoffend of Webster, NY, Nicole Twardoz of Amsterdam, NY; 3 great-grandchildren, Arianna, Dominik and Maxwell.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 6:00pm at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Alan Griffith officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4:00-6:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery in the Spring.
