Obituary of Geraldine Lila Sitterly

Mrs. Geraldine "Gerry" Sitterly, 66, of High Street, Fort Plain, New York died on Monday, February 17, 2014 at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam, following a long illness, surrounded by her family. Born on October 27, 1947 in Fallon, Nevada, she was the daughter of Leonard Swanson and Esther Groat Swanson. She was a lifelong resident of Fort Plain and a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1966. She furthered her education at Computer and Business Machine School in Utica, graduating in 1966. Mrs. Sitterly worked for Price Chopper in Palatine Bridge and Fort Plain True Value for many years. She had also been a seamstress for the former Luxary/Johnstown Knit in Fort Plain. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Plain. On October 4, 1969 at the former St. Mark's Church in Canajoharie, Gerry was married to Edward C. Sitterly. Together they celebrated over 44 years of marriage. Gerry was an avid bowler. She started winning bowling awards at the age of 15, going on to come in 5th place in the National BPAA Youth Tournament in Washington DC. She continued to enjoy bowling for many years after. Gerry was a former dispatcher for Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance. Mrs. Sitterly is survived by her husband, Edward C. Sitterly of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Tammy Sitterly of Glens Falls, NY; 2 sons, Torrey Sitterly of Fort Plain, NY, Trever and Christie Sitterly of Amsterdam, NY; 3 grandchildren, Parker Sitterly, Kiana Prusky, Brianna Prusky; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:00am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Pastor Gail Adamoschek officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Spring at Fort Plain Cemetery.
