Obituary of Freda G. Jones

Mrs. Freda G. "Mimi" Jones, 90, of Lafayette Street, Palatine Bridge, New York died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at St. Mary's Healthcare of Amsterdam following a brief illness. She was born at home on the family farm on Wiltse Hill Road in Jordanville, NY on May 19, 1923 to William Galusha and Ella Shaver Galusha. She was a graduate of Van Hornesville Central School, Class of 1942. She spent her entire adult life in the Palatine Bridge area. Mrs. Jones worked for LifeSavers in Canajoharie from 1942-1987 as a wrapping machine operator. She was a member of the Canajoharie United Methodist Church. Mrs. Jones was a member of the LifeSavers 25 Year Club. She enjoyed watching the NY Mets and playing bingo. Mimi loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed their birthday parties, baseball games and dance recitals. On November 3, 1946 in Palatine Bridge, NY, Freda was married to George W. Jones. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1995. She was also predeceased by her Son, Terry W. Jones on November 18, 2012; brother, Leland Galusha in 1979; sisters, Dorothy Eckler in 2000 and Vera Young in 2007. Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Janyce M. and her husband Terry VanAlstine of Palatine Bridge, NY; son, Gary A. Jones and his wife, Terry of Nelliston, NY; 5 grandchildren, Ryan VanAlstine (Laura), Melanie Lake (Chris), Jeffrey VanAlstine (Lori Tromp), Jeremy Jones (Jessica Knapp), Kellie Jones (James Thomas); 8 great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hailey VanAlstine, Tyler and Eric Lake, Camdon and Brienna Jones, Brayden Hakes and Maicee Thomas. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 7:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Wayne A. Cole officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery at a later date.
