Obituary of Marie Elizabeth La Rue

Mrs. Marie La Rue, 79, of Carmen Court, Palatine Bridge, New York died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at St. Mary's Healthcare of Amsterdam.
Born on December 20, 1934 in Rhinebeck, NY, she was the daughter of Oran VanEtten and Elizabeth Curtis VanEtten. She obtained her GED and later became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a lifetime area resident.
Mrs. La Rue, along with her husband, was the owner and operator of Sweetman Farm for many years. She then went to work for Astor Farm as a Secretary and Bookkeeper, later working as a secretary for Johnstown Knit. Most recently Mrs. La Rue was employed with Home Healthcare of Johnstown as an LPN.
She was of Baptist faith.
Mrs. La Rue was a past volunteer for the St. Johnsville Ambulance. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was more important than anything to Marie.
On April 18, 1954 Marie was married to Herman La Rue. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2010 after more than 56 years of marriage together. She was also predeceased by 1 sister and 3 brothers.
Mrs. La Rue is survived by her 3 daughters, Amanda La Rue Seeley of Morehouse, NY, Teena La Rue Duncan and her husband, Frank Duncan, Jr. of Schenevus, NY, Betty La Rue Patterson of Silver Point, TN; brother, Ronald VanEtten of Rhinecliff, NY; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 6:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4:00-6:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda at a later date.
