Obituary of Fred S. Stockwell

Mr. Fred S. Stockwell, 85, of State Highway 80, Fort Plain, New York died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born on January 30, 1929 in Nelliston, NY, he was the son of Charles Stockwell and Lucille Cronkhite Stockwell. He was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1946 and was a lifetime resident of Fort Plain. Mr. Stockwell was the owner and operator of Stockwell Brother's Dairy Farm along with his brother, Bob Stockwell, in Fort Plain, NY. He was a member of the Fort Plain United Methodist Church. Mr. Stockwell was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1955 and obtaining a rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Stockwell was a member of the Fort Plain School Board for 6 years and a member of the Town Board for 5 years. He was also an affiliate of the FFA in Fort Plain and of the 4H Minden Workers. He was a member of the Canajoharie-Fort Plain Elks and had received Elk of the Year award. On August 28, 1954 at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Fred was married to Nancy Arlene Veitch. She preceded him in death on February 3, 2005. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert Stockwell. Mr. Stockwell is survived by his 3 sons, Randy and Michelle Stockwell of Austin, TX, Kim and Carrie Stockwell of Hartwick, NY, Donald and Cheryl Stockwell of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Lori and David Fredericks of Fort Plain, NY; 9 grandchildren, Malinda and Mat Robey, Michelle and Chris Kelley, Jenna and Shaun Fisher, Jillian Fredericks, Jamie Fredericks, Julia Stockwell, Michaela Stockwell, Kurt Stockwell, Kayla Stockwell; step-grandchildren, Dan Bucenec, Holly Ferrara; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 5:00pm with family greeting/fellowship to follow at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church, Center Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Alan Griffith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Burial will take place in Hanna, Wyoming at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider contributions in memory of Mr. Fred S.
