Obituary of Sophie M. Ferraro

Sophie Ferraro died February 27, 2020. She was born in Savanna, Illinois on February 18, 1931, the daughter of Caesar Santucci and Argia Galeoti. When she was child, the family moved to Brooklyn, New York where she attended New York City Schools in the borough’s Bushwick section. As a young woman she was an office worker in Manhattan and in 1949 married Victor Ferraro. The young couple moved upstate to Canajoharie in 1952. In 1953, she had Frank the first of her three children followed by Rose and Marianne.
Sophie worked for over 25 years at Beech-Nut Corporation. As the receptionist in the Canajoharie Plant, she was known by all of the employees in the plant as well as the many salespeople and business representatives who visited the Canajoharie facility. Sophie was involved in the Catholic Daughters, St Peter's and Paul’s and most recently Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She was also an active member of the Van Alstyne Society. Her main hobby was playing Bridge which she did weekly for over 50 years.
Sophie is survived by three children: Frank Ferraro (Gale), Rose Dusold (Richard) and Marianne Lane (Mark); four grandchildren: Emily Heiser, Kevin Dusold, Kristen Geier, Ashley Lane and four great grandchildren: Sofia Heiser, Frankie Heiser, Grayson Yurkewitch and Gabriel Dusold.
A viewing will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 11:00-12:30PM with a prayer service at 12:30PM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 1:00PM at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY. Interment will be at St. Peter’s & Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Canajoharie, NY at a later date.
The family would like to thank Palatine Nursing Home and staff for their outstanding care and love for both Victor and Sophie.
