Obituary of Eleanor A. Cardinal

Eleanor Ann Cardinal of Fort Plain passed away at Bassett Medical Center on January 1, 2020 after a brave battle with cancer. Eleanor was born in Ames on August 26,1936 to Loran and Elsie Matte VanArsdal. She began a career at the Nelliston Post Office and then transferred to the Fort Plain Post Office where she retired in the late 90's. In 1986 she married Thomas Cardinal. They enjoyed 18 years together until his death in 2004. She loved working around her home and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her six brothers, Freddy, Harry, Leon (Gus), Richard (Buddy), Kenny and Claude, and her five sisters, Evelyn Meade, Irene MaGinnis, Irma Lowenski, Inez Robbins and Marie Voght. Her grandson, Jesse Gifford also predeceased her. She is survived by her three children, Yvonne Hazlett Gifford (Bill Chatfield), of Peterborough, NH, Wanda Hazlett (Andy DeVost), and Loren Hazlett (Jenni) of Fort Plain and grandsons, Jacob Hazlett of Mohawk and Ryan Hazlett of Fort Plain. We would like to thank the staff of Palatine Nursing Home and Cooperstown Bassett Medical Center for their care and compassion in caring for our Mom. Visiting hours will be held at the Fort Plain Reformed Church, Canal Street, Fort Plain, NY on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 1:30-3:30 pm with a memorial service to follow. We encourage friends and family to gather at the Reformed Church fellowship hall for refreshments.
