Mrs. Gertrude Anna Johnson, 81, of Walnut Street, Canajoharie, New York passed away, Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Born on November 21, 1937 in the Town of Palatine, NY, she was the daughter of John Weaver and Hazel Crouse Weaver. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Johnson drove Bus for Canajoharie School for twenty years and for Fort Plain School for five years. She loved driving bus so much because of her love for the kids. She always made sure to treat the kids on her route each holiday with a special snack or candy. Prior to driving bus Gertrude was the owner and operator of several local area restaurants, one of them being the former “Jack Frost” in Palatine Bridge.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia.
Mrs. Johnson was a very giving person. She was always there and willing to help anyone, especially her nieces and nephews. Spending time with family was one of her greatest pastimes; another was bowling in her younger years. Gertrude loved Christmas and treating others.
On November 13, 1982 in Fort Plain, New York (at her sister, Sadie’s house), Gertrude was married to Christopher E. Johnson. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1996. Her brothers, Floyd, Virgil, Ostrom, and Raymond Weaver also predeceased her.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her brother, Harvey Weaver of Palatine Bridge, NY; sisters, Sadie Dillenbeck of Fort Plain, NY, Hazel Hyney of Canajoharie, NY, Norma Frasier of Little Falls, NY; sister in laws, Minnie Weaver and Anna Weaver; as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins.
