Obituary of Lois M. Avery

Mrs. Lois M. Avery, 92, formerly of upper Otsego Street, Canajoharie, New York passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Palatine Nursing Home.

Born on April 5, 1927 in Rural Grove, New York, she was the daughter of Beardslee Darrow and Irene Sweet Darrow.  She attended Canajoharie High School and resided in the Canajoharie area most of her life, previously residing in Dolgeville.

Mrs. Avery was a mother and homemaker, along with assisting her husband on their family Dairy Farm.

She played piano for the Happy Valley Gang, a Country Western Band, for over 36 years.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed word searches.

On July 9, 1944 at The Reformed Church of Canajoharie, Lois was married to Harold J. Avery.  He preceded her in death on September 12, 1990.  Her siblings, Herbert, Dewey, LaVern, Murial, Alice, Doris, and Virginia also predeceased her.

Mrs. Avery is survived by her daughter, Lucinda I. Smith of Canajoharie, NY; son, Francis Avery of Canajoharie, NY; sisters, Eleanor Klingbile of Hudson, NY, Joyce Douglas of Little Falls, NY; grandchildren, Jayson Smith, Candice Brownell both of OK; great-grandchildren, Lydia Dillenbeck, Carter Ruszkowski; as well as several nieces, and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 11:00AM at West St. Johnsville Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
