Obituary of Yoshiko Sitterly

Mrs. Yoshiko “Kaiko” Sitterly, 80, of Barclay Street, Canajoharie, New York passed away, Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown, following a brief illness.

She was born on December 28, 1938 in Osaka, Japan and moved to Canajoharie in 1963.  On August 15, 2008 she became an American Citizen; which was an accomplishment that she was very proud of.  The following weekend all of the boats at her marina flew the American Flag.  It was something she never forgot.

Mrs. Sitterly worked as a Nurse’s Aide for Palatine Nursing Home for 41 years, until her retirement.

On October 11, 1963 in Canajoharie, Kaiko was married to Harry Thomas Sitterly. 

Some of her favorite pass times included, boating, fishing, day trips, museums, eating out, Western and Gangster movies, mowing her lawn, riding on country roads, local history, spoiling her husband, and rather than spending money on herself, she loved helping her mother and nieces and nephews on Okinawa.

Three brothers predeceased her.

Mrs. Sitterly is survived by her husband of 55 years, Harry “Tom” Sitterly of Canajoharie, NY; one brother; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11:00AM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:00-11:00AM at the funeral home.  Burial will take place in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
