Marie Tuttle Pryor, 94, of Edwards Street, Fort Plain, New York passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at home.
She was born in Frankfort, NY, daughter of the late Lynn Riley Tuttle and Ruth GazlayTuttle on June 2, 1925. Marie graduated from Frankfort High School as class valedictorian and participated in several school activities. She was organist in several Frankfort churches. Marie spent many days helping at and enjoying her grandmother’s farm in South Edmeston, NY.
Marie attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree cum-laude. She then taught in Schoharie Central School for two years. There, Marie met and married Rex Pryor. They moved to Rochester, NY, where Rex attended the Eastman School of Music and Marie taught at the near-by Rush-Henrietta Central School. They then moved to Fort Plain, NY where she taught in both Fort Plain and Canajoharie Central Schools.
After a brief time for charities including a volunteer registrar and helper with senior meals at a local church, county director for the American Heart contributions and for the local district and state garden club boards. Marie also became a National Garden Club flower show judge and demonstrator.
Marie became a Cornell Extension Agent for Montgomery County for several years. She later became a real estate broker with Judith Ann Realty for 29 years.
Mrs. Pryor is survived by her son, John Lynn Pryor of Reston, VA; granddaughters, Elisabeth and Karenna Pryor of Springfield, VA; Niece, Susan Dutton Napier and husband, Norman, of Oregon and Arizona; Grandniece Ruth Napier and husband, Luke and their daughters, Alice, Beatrice; Grandniece Brooke Napier of Portland, Oregon; and Nephew, Fred K. Dutton and family of the Phillipines.
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Rex Pryor and her sister, Jean Tuttle Dutton and her husband, Fred J. Dutton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd, Moyer Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 or to the Gazlay Cemetery in South Edmeston, NY in care of Melody Postma, 4226 County Route 18, New Berlin, NY 13411.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, to be preceded by 30 minutes of greeting and fellowship and a short reception to follow at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Moyer Street, Canajoharie on Saturday, October 12, 2019.
