Mr. Roger L. Douglas, 82, of Highland Terrace, Fort Plain, NY passed away early Wednesday evening, July 10, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at the Mt. Valley Hospice house.
Roger was born on August 9, 1936 in fort Plain, NY, the son of the late Clayton and Dorothy Rockefeller Douglas. He attended Fort Plain Schools, and has been a lifelong resident of Fort Plain.
Roger had worked as a warehouse man, putting up orders and loading trucks at the former Quants Foods in Amsterdam for over 35 years when he retired.
He served his country as an Army reservist for 6 years, was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Freysbush, and was an exempt member in the Fort Plain Vol. Fire Dept. Roger also enjoyed collecting knives, hunting, fishing and watching westerns on TV.
On September 26, 1959 at the Freysbush Lutheran Church he married Beverly Cook. The couple would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this September. His Sisters Deborah Root, and Veda Douglas and Brother Carl Douglas predeceased him.
Survivors include his wife Beverly Douglas; a daughter, Wanda and her husband Jeff Eaker; a son, Wayne A. and his wife Terri Douglas; a sister Virginia Herringshaw; Grandchildren, Joshua Eaker, (Kelly), Emily (Taylor) Douglas, Kara Eaker (Steve), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday July 16th, at 10:00 Am at the Gray-Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. With Burial taking place following the funeral at Freysbush Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends and relatives on Monday July 15th, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 Pm at the funeral home.
